He played well with KC. He was great at reading defenses and was deadly accurate.

Are you serious? Joe was 37 years old when he went to the Chiefs. The only reason he went to the Chiefs because they had Steve young....If they wouldn't have had Steve Young then Joe would have retired as a niner. JOE HAS 4 SUPERBOWLS. ANd Joe did it in a way that no other QB has even come close. Joe was special in that he was very mobile and also a great pocketpasser. ANd talk about a clutch QB. People go on and on about Brady. But no.......Montana was the king of clutch. I mean I watched games as a little girl and I still remember how great he was. He made that much of an impression on me. He was great for a extraordinary amount of time. Joe was great and he'll always be great. I grew up on watching Joe. And wow those 80 and 90 niners were the greatest teams to ever play the game.

Most athletes in their late 30's go downhill, with recurring injuries etc, thats why most retire when around 40 yrs old. Montana was no exception as his injuries hindered him during his latter years.

Although mother junker says rings don't mean a thing, do you think a bad quarterback can get you to win 4 Superbowls? Would you rather have Jim Kelly who lost 4 Superbowls quarterbacking your team in the Superbowl, or would you rather have Montana?

Montana had no name receivers in the first 2 Superbowls he WON. And he also beat Elway on Monday Night Football with a bunch of no name receivers also when he was with KC, and also beat Steve Young when Young had Rice on the team, also when Montana was with KC, which are the years you said he went to the 'toilet'.

You're either an Elway fan still sour about that loss, or are very young and only remember seeing Montana when he was with KC, or don't know nothing about Montana except what you see in video clips or books.

I'd take our 'toilet' quarterback against any other QB you have any day... and don't even say Brady is better, that guy is only known for driving his team to winning field goals, 'toilet' guy drove his teams to winning TOUCHDOWNS... ala 'the catch' of 1981 and 'the drive' of 1989 Superbowl, and the 'Monday Night Football drive' in 1992, and so on and so on.... I'll take touchdowns over field goals any day.

MONTANA IS THE BEST QB EVER OF ALL TIME

Where to start. He's a 2 time MVP, and 3 time Super Bowl MVP. He and Terry Bradshaw are the only quarterbacks to ever win 4 Super Bowls. In all of his 4 Super Bowls he never threw an interception. He was the 1990 Man of the Year, and holds the 49ers record for career passing yards. He was cool and calm and always came up in the clutch. Has the 4th highest career passer rating. He holds post season records for touchdowns and passing yards among others. As for his time with the Chiefs, he really wasnt that bad. In 1993 he was injured most of the season, but still led the Chiefs to the AFC title game, and made the Pro Bowl. In 1994 he was not a star but remember he was 38 at the time, and still led the Chiefs to the playoffs.

I completely agree with you. The argument of having the rings is crap. People who know nothing about football always say crap like that. If the best QB of all time is on a horrible team he won't have any rings. It's the team around him. If rings are the measuring stick than Aikman would have to be considered. Montana COULDN'T RUN and was ALWAYS HURT. WAY OVERATED. Steven Young was a lot better than Montana, he won it with half the talent. So all you who say he's the best, can suck it!

Montana vs Elway 1993 Monday night game when he was a Chief was one of the best games he ever played. It was one of the best regular season games of all time. 3 drives in 3 minutes by two of the best qbs ever led to 3 lead changes with Montana marchinf the Chiefs 80 yards down the field with 1:15 left to score the winning touchdown..

Uh...because he is one of only 2 QBs in history to win 4 Super Bowls...How old are you?...And Montana had the reputation as being the best at bringing the team back when it was behind...

The other QB with 4 is Terry Bradshaw...

He helped direct a franchise that was one of the worst in the game into the best in football (winningest while a starter)...of course the 4 rings, two back to back, 3 SB MVPs, no interceptions in 122 attempts in all 4 SBs...led a team in both conferences to conf. title game...this is a qb who came back from a season ending back injury to be a champion...youre probably an Elway or Farve fan...the niners had ALWAYS let go of players who still had tread on them before losing trade value (Montana, Rice, Craig, Lott)...he won rings before Jerry, and he brought all the players around him to a high level... do you think they all came out of college as All Pros? or that the Niners got a pile of blue chippers out of the first round of the draft? Get a clue...

Did you forget he won Super Bowl XVI without Rice and won Super Bowl XIX with Rice just a rookie? I am not a 49ers fan, but there is no doubt he is the one QB you would want in my generation with his team needing a score in the clutch. No one has been as good at coming back and winning big games- with or without Jerry Rice.

To be a great Quarterback you need recievers, Bart Starr wasnt that good, he had good recievers, Joe Mo had Jerry Rice and Dwight Clark, Steve Young had Jerry Rice and TO, Brett Farve had Freeman, Brooks, Driver, and Walker, Manning has Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison. Ben Rotherburger (spelling) had Ward, Burress, and Randel El in his one year wonder, take two of those recievers away and he sucks.
