This is my wife and I's first potential pregnancy. She took about 3 pregnancy test over the course of a couple of days. All of which said that she was pregnant. She called the doctor for an appointment but their policy is to wait another 4 weeks (I guess around 8 - 10 weeks since her last period).
Some people we have spoken with said this is normal but a couple of others said that they went and had blood work done and an exam. She had just gone about 2-3 weeks ago to the OB/GYN for a check up.
Are we just paranoid first timers?
Thanks for any advice that you can give.

Well that depends...
I would request to go in for a blood test ASAP. That doesn't require a visit with the doctor--just for a nurse to call you back and confirm the positive results.
My first pregnancy I was told to wait until I was farther along before the first visit--but did have blood tests done before hand.
Most times they will have you wait until they can either 1) see the developing fetus with ultrasound or 2) have a detectable heartbeat. They (the doctors) do not want you coming in earlier because there is a chance you can miscarry in the first few weeks.
At least that is what I am lead to believe.

You could probably get a confirmation from a blood test. But...be prepared. I found out MUCH too early with 2 of my 5 pregnancies by blood test. My dear OBGyn tried to talk me out of it, but I insisted. Both of those pregnancies didn't get past the first few weeks.
He told me that it is not uncommon for pregnancies to terminate on their own in the VERY early stages. It's natures way.
Advanced technology has really caused us grief
in this area as we all want to know RIGHT awy. But, believe me...it's much easier to wait than it is to go in for that ultrasound at (what you believe is)7-10 weeks and be told that there is no growth and no heartbeat.
I don't mean to sound insensative, but getting a beautiful baby here is no different than many things in our lives...what is meant to be will be.

They made my sister wait till 10 weeks. I never went to the doctor until I was about 17 weeks. (I had insurance problems) But my baby is healthy and I am too! You are not paranoid, just excited...But trust me, going to the doctor does not make the time go any faster. I am due in 11 days and I sit around and wait for my next appt.

it all depends on the doctors, some doctors like to wait until the mom is about 7 to 8 weeks along so they can start all the tests and ultrasounds. some doctors like to see moms in right away just to make sure they haven't misscarried. as long as mom has seen a doctor by 8 weeks along she and the baby is fine.

well i took 2 tests and they both said i was pregnant so i called my regular doctor and went in the next day...she did a test and confermed it....then i had to make an appointment with a obgyn and yes they made we wait till i was 8 weeks till my appointment....i was a little madd that i couldent go in ealier but when i did go in i was very excited...the frist visit is always the longest i was there for about 2+ hours i got the first picture of my baby, they took lots of blood, my weight, asked me tons of medical questions, and gave me alot of stuff to read...to just wait for it i guess there is nothing u can do

My doctor gave me an appointment as soon as I realized I was pregnant, and I was 6 weeks at my first appointment. I would rather see someone as early as possible if I were you. Maybe call back and express your concern, and see if they will take you sooner. If they don't, I would go elsewhere.

You don't see an OBGYN until you are at least 8 weeks pregnant. However, I'd see your family doctor and have blood work done to find out if she's really pregnant or not.

make the appointment for a few weeks from now and it will all be OK to everyone just make sure not to let her drink any alcohol at all during her pregnancy and do a lot of reading of books to her belly lol i know this sounds funny but it helps the child to learn

i didnt see an ob til 8 weeks but i was seen by my regular doctor at 4 weeks to get confirmed examined and referred have her call her regular doctor for an appointment
