trying to find some chill jam music. instrumental or not.

They can also be main stream or not. A band that might sound like DMB and be able to do nice improv stuff

Bela Fleck...new age banjo??? He did make it work. And all his band members are in costume.

Bruce Hornsby stepped in with Grateful Dead for a while after Garcia passed away. He didn't replace Jerry but he did help sustain them and gave them a new sound. Bruce is an old guy now with a long career but you may not know he has been busy all this time. His later stuff is really jazzy. Check out Candy Mountain Run.

Poi Dog Pondering

Sorry to go old school, I always loved Gerry Rafferty and Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Al Jarreau.

Not knowing the def of "jam band" I am assuming you mean LONG solos, jazzy and other non-rock influences, lots of improv, good concert band as opposed to just polished in the studio. So that is what my list is about.
