My boyfriend and I have been dating for over three years now and are in a committed relationship. We both want to spend the rest of our lives together but here's the problem; he thinks getting married is stupid. he says why should it be that just because a priest or marriage place says we're married make us married, why cant we just say we are and be married. i totally agree with him but i want him to propose to me still!!! how can i convince him to propse to me with out bieng pushy or come off as one of those crazy girlfriends haha. i really need some good advice on this one!!! please help me, i dont wanna miss out on something so big!!!!

Just be honest with him and tell him how you feel. Let him know that this is your dream to be proposed to and married the traditional way with the man you love and want to spend the rest of your life with!! If he cares enough and loves you then he would do if for you to make you happy!! You don't have to have the big white wedding you can just have a tiny one with intimate family and friends during the day!!

Well I feel the same way as he does but only because I am not ready to get married and I have been with my boyfriend for 5 years and think all that will change when I know for sure. I am a firm believer in marriage but only when you really know. I think saying that we feel that way really means not ready at all. It is a scary thing b/c when you take those vows you are making a promise to your partner and god that you will be together no matter what until you die. I am 28 my boyfriend is 24. He wants to get married but he also loves me enough to say that he will wait until I am totally ready. But then again is that fair to him to wait? Its complicated but I do wish you guys the best of luck. Love is hard just please remember those vows are forever, make sure!!!

In your mind, is being proposed to a symbollic thing or sentimental thing? You seem to think that marriage is not the recognized sacred symbol of a man and a woman committing to each other. Then you can take a hippie and commune approach to this issue. They are perfectly happy with living together in the manner you described.

Why should he get married to you?
You can't even come up with a reason yourself? Why should he risk everything that comes with marriage on you? You can't truthfully promise your feelings won't change, and you're already trying to force him to do things that he is diametrically opposed to.
That doesn't bode well.

give him reasons on why he should get married LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!!!!!!!
if he still doesnt give in then tell one of his friends 2 convince him, the whole guy2guy thing usually works!!

well im sure hes a big boy. you cant convince someone about something so big i dont think. he has to want to on his own. i think making him do something he doesnt want to can cause resentment. im sure hell grow up soon.

ummm....sounds like he's not quite as committed as you are...........it does make a difference whether you are married or not under the law; i.e., taxes, deductions; getting insurance through work......kids....
