I have watched the simpsons for years and for some reason I never payed attention that Chief Wiggum had a wife and now he dosent. Was there ever an episode where it explains what happened to her

Ok, I found out that Nancy Cartwright does the voice for Sarah Wiggum and "you're lucky if she shows up once a year onscreen"...that's it, all I found.
Loved how she said "Oh Clancy" tho!

I don't know where you've gotten the idea that his wife isn't around anymore. The only episode he is strictly on his own with Ralph is the Simpsons Spin-Off episode where he's a detective in New Orleans and it's him and Ralph living in a boathouse. On the episode where Skinner and Crabapple start messing around, she dials the phone for him, on the playdate with Bart and Ralph she's in bed next to him when Bart steals the magic key, she detests his presence on the slideshow of patrons to the Maisson Deriere, on a recent Valentines episode she translates the sky writing "I (heart) U *" as "I love you Pop-n-Fresh! Oh, Clancy", and on the ep where Maude Flanders dies, Ralph exclaims while Homer is jiggling shirtless waiting for a free T-shirt "He has bosoms like mommy," to which chief replies "Yeah, I wish." So I'm pretty sure she's still around.
