After washing my jeans they began to smell weird. It's not a nasty or gross odor it just doesn't smell like the deferent I use to wash them in. I've tried everything from washing them in hot and cold water, using different soaps and fabric softener and dryer sheets. I've tied Febreeze as well...

If I use baking soda or vinegar should I soak the jeans in the water with it or put it in the washer? Thanks to all serious answers :)

Vinegar and baking soda are safe for almost any fabric, including your jeans

Vinegar should be diluted, but can be used in wash or rinse, you can pour right in, or use the Downy Ball.

Baking soda in wash only, to be rinsed out, or use it dry, toss jeans in with the baking soda into an airtight container and seal up.

Vinegar is a good trick for brand new jeans too. Sets the dye so that they don't fade so fast, and bleed onto other clothes.

You can do either as a soak, where you use a bucket and leave for days or overnight.

I can't imagine why the jeans should smell weird after washing, and why another washing didn't remove the odor.
You CAN soak them in a water/baking soda solution and see if that'll help:
Fill a mop bucket or dish pan with water and add 1/2 cup baking soda.
Soak the jeans for 1/2 hour, then rinse. See if that helps.

I understand that using vinegar will help dark colors retain their color longer. Given that, try the vinegar. Baking soda won't hurt them or bleach them out. Let them soak for a few minutes then wash. There is also a product called Odo-Ban that I have gotten at Sam's Club. Simple Green can take out odors, too.

Use vinegar, put it in like you would bleach. When they are done washing, they will smell like vinegar, but vinegar evaporates when it gets dry. Once you dry it, they will smell like whatever fabric sheet you stick in the dryer. Good Luck! =0)

The dye is what causing the smell. I gave up on black jeans years ago because of it. Vinegar is a good trick to use.

You can try baking soda in the pre-soak cycle, but it could discolor them if you put it directly on the fabric. Personally, I wouldn't want my jeans to smell like vinegar-- think about it. I suggest putting them on without smelling them! Good luck

Add a half-cup to a cup of sudsy ammonia (maybe called "ammonia cleaner", found in the household cleaners aisle) to the laundry load. I use it on almost any type of washable fabric, promise it will not harm jeans.
