about 2 years ago, i found a metal canister wrapped in tree bark in some bushes at a local park. it was very well hidden. my mom demanded that i leave it alone, so i did.
i go to this park alone with my dog 2-4 times a week now. lately, sinces the bushes have died because of winter, i have noticed the canister again.... i really want to see whats inside! but the problem is -is that whats inside could kill me! what if its a pipe bomb? but what if its 5,000 bucks? hell, it could just be some fishing gear... but i'll never know! what should i do!? it seems like someone put it there- to hide it- should i mess with it? i really want to

its been raining here lately... tomorrow i'll go check the canister out... hopefully i decide what to do before this question goes to vote. i really dont want to call the cops! i think i may just throw it into a bag and take it home... UGH! but i might blow up! i dont know!

OKAY! ive news! i went to the park, brought a bag, put the canister, which was actually a plastic, not metal, into my bag, took it home, opened it outside, pushed it over with a broom, and saw a little car pop out of the opening!
it WAS that GPS thing one of the later posters was talking about! shocking! i was really hoping for something more..... useful..... too bad, but its still kinda fun. i posted pics--

It seems to me that a friend of mine used to hide metal cannisters filled with unusual but useful things as part of a club he belonged to having to use GPS's to locate these from a website describing "hides" and "finds". I think you ought to ask around some Surplus stores to see if they can't give you some idea of what site to go to. If it's wrapped in tree bark, it's prob. only to conceal it from any eyes and shield the metal from reflecting. I wish I could give you the website address, but forgot it. Oh my gosh, the mystery must be eating you up! I would be wary of it because like you said, it could be something dangerous. Perhaps you could ask at your local police station if they will accompany you. They would probably let you keep whatever was inside unless they suspect a bomb and explode it, then you'll never know.

It's probably a time capsule buried by a kid.
You'll probably find newspapers, photos n stuff from 2 years ago.
Hopefully it won't be somebody's decaying hamster, gerbil, etc!

It's most likely nothing. When you open it, you'll get to feel really dumb for waiting a couple of years to satisfy your curiosity.
