Mine did that thought it was the gasket so went to change it then have the valves ground at a machine shop and they found a crack in the head thinking might as well change both to be sure nothing happens to the old one after a while did that the new heads cost me a little over two hundred and my time for doing the job was priceless you're looking at some money put out if have a shop do it.
I went to the library and checked out the manual that the mechanics use and that is by Helm Inc. the manuals cost close to two hundred the both volumes 1-800-782-4356 or go on-line, library is cheapest though good luck.
I marked each cable, hose and nut and took digital pics disassembling it to remember how everything went back together have sandwich bags and mark them what they came from like intake, exhaust manifolds, head, etc.

Your first three respondents are "dead-on" accurate. I've busted a couple of head gaskets in my younger days, on the same car no less, and had to have them replaced. The sooner the better, or, as pilipinas2000 says, you're gonna have bigger problems, and you'll have to replace your entire engine, or your entire car, depending on the value of the one you have now. Oh, and as long as they have to take the engine down that far, and depending on how much money you want to spend over and above the cost of replacing the head gasket, you might want to have your mechanic check the rings and valves for replacement, depending on how long you plan on keeping your car and how many miles you have on it. The last time I blew a head gasket, my mechanic called me and recommended I replace the rings because my car was burning oil and he saw the rings weren't doing all that well, and so I agreed to replace them, and my car went from 55mpg to 57mpg. Yes, you read the numbers right. I drove a VW Rabbit diesel, and the speed limit was 55mph, and I had a 5 speed manual transmission. I finally had to get rid of it due to an on-the-job accident I had, and it had 326,600 miles on it and still giving me 57mpg. But, your car may not be that valuable, so, just a thought. God Bless you.

it would desire to sound too ordinary, yet have you ever replaced the radiator cap? do no longer difficulty with an oem cap - they're serious junk - purely get one from Toyota. If it is not it, extra info will help. Does it overheat at idle and quiet down, or overheat interior a couple of minutes of beginning the engine, or after fifteen minutes? With the recent radiator and fan snatch overheating at idle probably ability a bubble interior the coolant. Overheating almost in the present day ability coolant by no ability gets to the radiator - a huge time water flow difficulty. If it waits quarter-hour the equipment is flooding with warm coolant, lower back the radiator no longer getting rid of warmth. truly, although, the radiator cap is the final suspect with the coolant overfilling the reservoir.

You have a bad head gasket and possibly a bad head. To check the water pump, remove cap and look for circulation....best to check after the head is fixed. Good luck.

If you lose water, it will overheat. Liquid coming out of the head gasket, water pump won't help.
