I am a avid history channel watcher, And all of the D-Day footage i watch there are blimps everywhere, Does anyone know what these were used for?

The blimps were used to deter enemy aircraft from straffing the troops on the ground. They were flown at various heights.

The US used blimps for reconnaissance. Of course, putting them in the immediate vicinity of enemy troops or fighting was inadvisable, but you could see quite a distance from a blimp.

No, there won't be. Large scale sea invasions are a thing of the past. If there is a ww3 the russians, americans, chinese... would just launch nuclear missiles at eachother. But my guess is there won't be a ww3, we must do everything to avoid it.

Bubkiss is correct, they were tethered to the ground with cables to ensnare enemy planes.
