Don't look so sad, David! I have a friend who got her BA in English at age 72, then wrote a couple of books.
Sounds like you're quite at home when you're at school ;-)
So go for it. I'd give anything to be able to go back to school & get my BA.

I'm assuming you're thinking about art school...
Regardless, there's no reason why anyone (of any age) can't go back to school and finish or get another degree.
I went to an art school in a large state university and there were plenty of older students there in the art program. I befriended a man who had been in the miltary for 20+ years and he decided to retire and get an art degree (he already has several masters degrees in other applied sciences), which included basically taking all the undergraduate level classes before they would even let him apply to the masters program.
If you're planning on applying to a smaller school you, as an older student, might see smaller numbers enrolled.
Another drawback, or something you should maybe research would be if the prospective school even covers airbrushing, because I'm thinking most won't (if you're even interested in studying that further). Some art schools are very open to all disiplines, some aren't. Yet even if they are, that doesn't mean there will be on-hand expertise to teach you something you want to learn. Sometimes I would see an older student there in a studio class to seemingly learn techniques, and that wasn't the purpose of the class, and they would be disappointed thinking they were going to get Bob Ross or something. Research specific faculty and their work.
One of the reasons the art program has so many older students was that I was in a state that allowed residents of a certain age (I can't rember what the specific age was, but I think it was in the 60's range) to enroll in any state school, bypassing the admissions process. Art is popular with the retired set, so it makes sense that a lot of them enrolled into the art classes at my state school.
In my own opinion those older students worked way harder and showed more of a commitment to the work in those studio classes (although it's not always hard to run circles around art school 'burnouts'). The one thing I noticed they didn't take to as well was "change". They were less inclined to experiment with their work and as a result, the "growth" in their work was stunted a bit (i.e. it took them longer to make progressive strides). But generally I found them to be a joy to be around in the studio because you knew they really wanted to be there.

It is never too late. I went back to school at 40 and blew the art department out of the water!!! I earned the Student of Distinction award for overall academic achievement in the entire art department. I'm now living in Fairhope AL with my own studio and I just turned 55. If you live to be 85 then you have 40 years left to paint up a storm. Go for it. It'll be the best thing you've ever done for yourself. Good luck. L. White

David--Go for it... Artists only get better with age...(like a fine wine....LOL) I have about 72 credits myself and I am so old (54) that if I wait just a little longer, I can go back to school in my state for free... (I'll be using my GEEZER card). Keep drawing/painting/whatever... set up a little place in your house for you to work==it can be just a corner. Enter a show or two with a couple of works. Don't stop. Get the degree. I like to think of Grandma Moses... If she did it, we can too...best of luck.

If the last time you were in college is less than 10 years, generally you should still be able to use your credits,if not you may have to take at least some of them over,You may want to check that out, before you start school.
