She will be in pain. Try to give her anything she wants that the doctors ok, and be supportive. Be her link between what the nurses say, and what will happen. Be supportive, and MAKE SURE that you ASK HER what she wants when the doctors suggest something. Just try not to get uptight and stressed. Be calm and that will help her the most.

There wont be any embarassing moments, when a woman goes into labour theres no such thing, it all goes out the window. Dont worry, just be there, be happy and smiling, dont show any fear to anyone, especially your wife, partner, keep telling her how much you love her and what a great mum shes going to be and how proud she will make you, do you have a particular piece of music you both really love, something that reminds you of when you first met or fell in love, play it in the labour room, Im sure they wont object, just about anything goes now, have a word with the delivery staff first. Good luck - you will be a great Dad Im sure.

I was induced, so there was no guesswork about when I started, but I can tell you some mistakes my husband made. DON'T give her your hand to hold during a contraction unless you have a REALLY high pain tolerance. If she has an IV, watch out for it, and help her if she gets it tangled. If you help during the 'pushing' phase, keep her foot on your shoulder, if you get tired, switch with the person who has her other foot or with another person altogether. DON'T put her foot on your chest. I almost broke his ribs.
Be prepared for her to be VERY cranky, she's going through what's probably the worst pain of her life. She'll still love you afterward, no matter what she may say during labor.
Congratulations, and good luck!

A friend shot a video of his wife when she was in labor - and pain writ large on her face, he kept prompting "smile, smile". It was the most embarassing video I watched in my life. Please record the video for yourself, if you must - this is no time for public display of any sort.
You would do great, I am sure.

forget embarrasing ! Just be there to ask her if she needs anything. Nothing you could do will make it better than to help her in whatever she needs to be more comfortable. Classes would have helped you know!

Gah! You didn't take classes? It's your job to hold down the fort daddy. If you still have time please take a lamaze or bradley course.
Only thing i can say regarding embarassment is this... if she poops on the table... don't tell her until AFTER she's had the kid :)
