Nobody mentioned the fact that Vista runs best on Core 2 Duo (at least 6400 - 2.13 GHz), 2 GB RAM and with at least 50% of your HDD free.

A Vista needs more than just 1.66 GHZ and 1 GB and 12.2 gigs.
No real recommendation here. It is still new and Microsoft hasn't worked it out yet. Big resource hogger.
Try increase 1.66GHZ to 2.70 or higher
Try 30 GB HD and 2 GB

Windows Vista is a huge resource hog. Much more than XP ever was. Your notebook sounds like it cannot handle the upgrade. Your best bet is to switch back to XP until you can get a more powerful notebook (one that is built for Vista).

I'm not a computer geek, but did you get rid of your Windows XP and did you do some housekeeping to get rid of your old files, music, pics, etc. You can get a flash drive to store the stuff that you don't want to delete. This is just an opinion. Oh, yah, spy ware, do you have a program to find, delete and block spy ware? Spy ware really slows everything down.

You really didn't read any reviews did you..
Trust me what you are experiencing is normal, and had happened to hundreds of people.
Vista completely wastes your hard drive and renders your Ram useless.
There are also many bugs, hundreds of applications are not yet compatible.
Sadly it looks like you made the wrong move.
