I have a 1998 Explorer that has been in the shop for 12 days. The shop had originally installed tensioners charging me 1700.00, they are now crediting me the 1700 since last Thursday my motor quit. Now for the past week since I have paid them 1800 difference they have said that they are waiting for Jasper to rebuild me a motor. Does this sound right? I kept calling the repair shop, and this is what the guy said. I don't know anything about motors, but Jasper being a big company...right? Do they rebuild engines one at a time? Thanks in advance.

I really didn't need to know that they are called engines not motors. That will not help me in my situation whatsover!

Anyways to you that have truely tried to help me..they are not rebuiling my old motor. My motor is still at the shop, according to the repair guy. I have major trust issues with this place, but will now call and ask them where it is being built...windor or romeo. Thank you!

More than likely you have a 4.6 in that one. Those engines are quite common, but they can be a pain of sorts. There are 2 main versions of engines, the Windsor (built at the Windsor plant) and Romeo (built at the Romeo plant). While the engines may seem identical in appearance, there are numerous differences. There are a couple of different cam designs, several piston designs, many piston/rod combinations. Timing covers are different, knock sensors mount differently and so on. The Jasper location you are using may not have the particular configuration for your vehicle, thus they may be building your old motor. If that is the case, it will take at least a week to build, and possibly another week to install.

Be certain when you accept the vehicle that you get warranty papers from Jasper.

Jasper is a big place and I assume they already have engines built ahead of time for replacement. The only reason for them to rebuild yours would be that they don't have one like yours in stock already done and I find that hard to believe.

As far as I know, Jasper supplies rebuilt engines, and take old ones as a core. Jasper is a big company, they give you a decent warranty on rebuilt engines. I will not comment on feasibility of investing that much money (probably more than it's worth in good condition) into an old explorer... but it's your business.

Jasper does not rebuild motors. They rebuild engines.

no......jasper rebuilt engine,s are usually done by jasper & not one at a time........there could be circumstance,s that could cause the company to seek an independant rebuilder......but all considered...........no way should it take that long.
