Ok here's a pretty quick but broad look at both of them
Keep in mind this is VERY general. Not all Republicans or Democrats feel this way about all of the issues but the ones that seem to make the most noise feel this way.
Republican: Less taxes and less government interaction with businesses. Generally very corporate. Pro-life and anti-gun control. Tend to be against Stem-cell research citing the pro-life part and generally not big believers in Global Warming.
Democratic: Higher taxes with high government spending. Pro-choice and pro-gun control. Believers in Global Warming and for Stem-cell research.
Hope this helped.

Both groups have different standpoints on issues such as taxes, government involvement, foreign affairs, etc etc etc! Republicans (GOP: Grand Old Party) is the younger party and tends to be more fiscally and socially conservative. It believes that laws should be made by the province and that judges should not interpret the constitution to make new laws. Republicans believe that people should be responsible for themselves. The key word to remember here is small government- they dont want the government involved in every aspect of their lives.
Democrats trace their origins to the Democratic-Republican Party- founded by Thomas Jefferson and is the oldest political party in the world. It tends to cater to blue collar workers and ethnic/religious minorities. It is more financially and socially liberal- many of its current ideas stemming from the New Deal era of Roosevelt. Democrats believe the government should play a role in alleviating poverty and social injustice. Key word to associate with democrats is big government.
You should know that both Democrats and Republicanss (and other political parties) are often trying for the same results but have different ideas in how to get there. Not all political party members subscribe to all the ideas of the party. I highly recommend you dont vote based on political parties but rather research each of your options and weigh it against your personal value system.

Democrats are a loose organization compared to the Republicans. Republicans have better organization because for one thing they are more homogeneous. The Democrats tend to be more "Big Tent" and seek accomidation between a wider range of interest. Republicans range from one extreme to the other just as Democrats do. Both pefer government invervention just in different areas. Democrat more in business Republican in social activities but both aggrandize the power of government. Depending on the area of the country determines how progressive or conservative the party. A Californian Republican is usally different in a lot of way from a Mississippi Republican. Just as a New York Democrat is from a Texas Democrat. There is no set rule its all POLITICS.

You know that would have been fun to answer that 15 or 20 yrs ago when there was a real difference. The question now is What is the difference between a true Conservative and a left wing Liberal. Repubs and Dems in todays terms are both for gov and social programs.

Republicans susbscribe to the basic principles set forth by Alexander Hamilton. They like a strong central government, a strong foreign policy, weak domestic policy, and favor big business and wealthy people. They will borrow and spend for their favorite programs. Someone else will pay for them later.
Democrats subscribe to the basic priciples set forth by Thomas Jefferson. They like a weak central government in favor of stronger state governments, a weaker foreign policy and strong domestic policy. The Democrats tend to make laws favoring the poor, elderly, and middle class and farmers, labor unions and small businesses. They usually believe in pay as you go by taxing those who ask for or use the services or laws they make happen.
When America is running well, which it hasn't been for some time, we have a balance between both philosophies.

Democrats believe that big government is the answer to all problems and private industry is the enemy.
Republicans believe that big government is the cause of all problems and private industry does a much better job at solving them when not impeded by big government.

Basicly, Democrats have always been proponents of working people, for example ;social security, minimum wage, environmental laws, union affiliation, safety and health on the job, etc.. Republicans are proponents of business and trickle down theory that states; when business does well, without government restriction, the wealth trickles down to working people. You Make The Call!

Pick an issue and look up each party's views on it. On many issues, they will be opposite.
In general, Democrats believe in personal freedoms and economic regulation, while Republicans believe in personal regulation and economic freedom.

Easy if you love America, you are a Republican !
If you hate America, but support the Troops, but hate America,
but call yourself a Patriot, then you are a Democrat. See that
