I have two male bettas in a seperation tank, but when you take up the partition so they can see each other one flare's up while the other does not. I was just wondering if he is sick or if he is just not that agressive. Please help. I would like to know if he is sick.

is he young? young ones often don't flare.

often bettas can feel like they have better things to do to. If he knows he isnt' going to get attacked he will just hang out and see whats up with you instead of paying attention to another betta.

if he is eating and his fins aren't clamped then he is probably fine. clamped fins are usually tightly held to the body -- their dorsal won't go up at all.

Your one betta could just be use to the other fish. That can happen sometimes. Try putting a mirror on the outside of his side of the tank for 10-15 minutes a day. Most bettas flare up when they see themselves in a mirror.

No he is not sick he is just a punk . Sorry to say that but when two of the males get together one is always more aggressive then the other . One day you will see him punking out the other one and the other one will not flar - up . It's no problem don't worry that's how mine act and I had them for 8 months now .

He is most likely not very aggressive. He does however need to flare on occasion, it helps the immune system.

They also always flare at the ends of pencils or pens. Make sure he can't see you directly (it doesn't always work if he can...they can be pretty smart.)

He might be sick. But you need to scare him. tap on the tank or stand in front of the tank so he can see you and you appear huge to him which will intimidate him and cause him to flare up.

I think it is not as agressive as your other one. Try putting them together and see if they fight. then quickly seperate them.

He is using non-violent resistance.

You should name him "Gandhi".

Peace!
