Rock Or Rap? Why do somepeople like only rock or some only like rap?And others like them both just as much?

Technically rap really isn't music because in most cases the beat and background instrumentals are synthesized from software loops like Sony's ACID programs coupled with ripped samples. Also, the "music" form is nothing new. Back in the mid-50s poets recited to a bongo player in coffee shops in NY and elsewhere. The trend actually started in Europe as part of the Bohemian culture. In the US it evolved into the Beatniks in the late 50s (Maynard Krebs in "The Many Loves of Doby Gillis" TV show.) followed by the flower children of the mid-late 60s. If you want to hear some early rap, listen to an album of "My Fair Lady" from the late 50s. Rex Harrison, who played Henry Higgins couldn't sing so he spoke his lines to an orchestral staging. As for rock music, at least the lyrics are sung to a melody. Rap? Great beat but you have to pay attention to the lyrics more or you'll never figure out what's being said. When I listen to music, I don't want to be preached at or shouted at. I'll take rock any day because it just feels better!

I personally like both. I play the drums so when i practice its usually to rock. I also like rap because of the beats and some rappers' songs are lyrical masterpieces. Lil wayne i think is my fav.

Anyway, i think that when it comes to ppl who only like one or the other, most fall in two categories. The first are those people who just dont prefer one or the other. Listening to rap or rock just might not do it for them. The second are people who dont give one or the other a chance. I think race might have something to do with it. Im black and sometimes when im hanging with some of my friends they give me the impression the impression that listening to rock isnt cool for black ppl. And the same might be true vice versa with white ppl but i obviously cant speak from personal expirience.

People only like one or the other because both genres feature characteristics that many people percieve to be contradictory. For example: most rock is mainly based on melody with rhythm as background while most rap is based mainly on rhythm. Rock usually incorporates singing (which includes melody in the vocal line) while rap is like "talking to a beat." Most rock is based on instruments while rap uses mainly drum machines, turntables and synthesizers.

These are just a few contrasts between the styles and as you can see, it may be difficult to incorporate both into the same style, which is why many people dislike one or the other. Many people would say that rock requires more musical talent while rap requires more quick thinking with words.

Personally, I'm a rocker and I always will be one :)

Rock is definatly my choice the heavy guitar and the hard core drums really help out with agression Rap sucks its always about how much money they have and about hos shaking their *** and getting up in their guts. But some people like that its just your choice.

i like both but i like rap better cause when im mad it calm me down and i can understand it alil better and relate 2 it but every1 has there own opinions and every1 is different and has different taste thats y ppl like both or 1 or the other
