What exactly does the saying "scar me for life" mean?

"Scar me for life" is a phrase when used in a psychological sense means that what you just saw/heard/smelled/etc. would 'scar' you for life or in other words haunt/hurt/disgust/etc. you for the remainder of your life.
When used in a physical sense it means your injury will leave a lifelong scar on your body.
