How old do you have to be to be employed in California. If it helps I would like to work for a hot rod shop..

Too bad you arn't interested in a job in the entertainment industry. You can get a work permit at 15 DAYS old! :)

If you have to go to school (you have not graduated from high school) the general age for a work permit is 16, but for some jobs it can be as low as 14 (and farm work can be lower than that). Information specific to California is here:
