A therapist is a unbiased party that is there listen to you... of course he will talk to you, but what he means by him not projecting his opinions is that he doesn't want to tell you what to do from his own personal feelings about the matter... for eg if you went to a therapist and told him that you're gay and you're having issues with being in love with you best friend... if the therapist doesn't agree with the homosexual lifestyle... he cannot start telling you to stop it and to not be gay anymore etc... he has to do what is best for you and your situation... if he allows his own feelings to come into it then he is being unethical... therapy (depending on the type) is usually client-focused and therefore wil be geared towards therapies and techniques that will help YOU to recover in the best way possible for your situation. Therapists are trained to offer various methods of therapy and thats why you go to one... you probably wouldn't want to know what the therapists are actually thinking about you anyway!

Different therapists have different ways. He may not want to offer an opinion, but offer you options for you to decide. Depending on what your issues are, this may be the best way to treat you. Does he want you to become more independent? Are you depressed and its hard for you to make decisions? This may be 2 reasons for his decision.

Ask him why, first of all. If this is not the type of therapy that you feel will encourage and help you, there are other available. He will understand.

sometimes the best thing about talking is one of the talkers being a good listener, that's pretty much what therapists do. They are good listeners - or at least the good ones are.

I have always been a firm believer in the fact that people will tell you everything you need to know about them if you listen close enough.
