Would the U.S. culturally become more like third world countries? Their views seem to be to keep the government out of everything, they want to privatize schools, hospitals and probably even more like the fire dept and police. They also want to exterminate minimum wage and any unemployment/welfare benefits.

Do you think the gap between the rich and poor would increase and our cities would start to look like Iraq and Iran where people live in huts with no electricity? Would this really be good for the U.S.?? I think it'd be devastating personally, I always thought the reason why the U.S. was sooo great is because of the government, not in spite of it..

And where are you getting I "hate the U.S."? Ya'll listen to that hate radio a little too much. Sorry if you can't think beyond the next couple of years or beyond "yourself".. I'd rather not see my country turn into Afghanistan of 10 years ago which some of you seem so eager to see.. Just don't whine when you get shot because a mother needed to buy food for her kids, I'm sure you'll just blame Slick Willie for that though...

Truthfully it is the current administration who designed the bill for the increase in minimum wage. However, it has always been a fact that the mimimum wage scale has never been able to keep up with the rising cost of living. It was the new congress who had turned it down and said we cannot have a higher minimum wage without the proper tax scale. So, the Dem's have it.

There used to be THREE classes of citizens in the U.S. Rich, middle class and poor. With the additional influx of new people from other countries, legal and illegal, our corporations a putting Americans in a bind by hiring all unskilled laborers. The illegal immigrants and those here on visas, should never be counted amoung the nations poor. (If you're not on the tax roles, you are not a part of the system so how and why should they be included) The fact is there are over 11 million illegal people in the United States who work and do not pay taxes. Therefore, they cannot and should not be counted among the nations poor. You are incorrect about exterminating the minimum wage as it was just increased to over $7 per hour..so this is NOT extermination.

The U.S. will NEVER be a third world country and if you think that, then you should not be here...and choose to live there.

There is one thing that you have to understand. Americans are attempting to be polite, but we truly do not like 'others' taking our jobs from us just for the sake of them trying to survive on this side of the border. I think the borders should be closed to all new entrants, as the US is beginning to show signs of overpopulation at this point.

If it isn't an incoming citizen (illegal or legal) taking away an American's job, the jobs are being outsourced to other countries because the American worker is being UNDERBID by their citizens.

Haahaa, your reference to huts without electricity, well, that's where the liberal environmentalist global warming coolaid drinking crowd would have you. With NO industry, and preferably a declining birthrate to remove the poison of humanity from GAIA.

You really don't have a clue about what conservatism, and conservative ideals are all about do you>? Admit it!! You're working off of hearsay and feelings! Headline reading, and hanging out at the DU. Liberalism will poison your mind.

The government does not run hospitals, except for the VA. The best schools in this country are the ones NOT run by the government. MOSTLY. Not all of them.

Another very strange statement about the minimum wage? The government should not be involved in redistribution of wealth. The market takes care of itself. I worked for minimum wage a few times, and always got promoted and made more money fairly quickly. Welfare systems are one of the biggest failures and travesties of our government and society. Programs that help people get on their feet and back to work are good. Perpetual feeding, clothing and housing of a non working class is BAD.

Your second paragraph does not make any sense. Our government is fine, it's the best system in the world. What works here may not work exactly the same anywhere else.

Having a sense of personal responsibility and a sense of controlling your own destiny, AND living in a country that will not stand in the way of your achievments, THAT is what America is about. I'm sure there are liberals that believe some of that, but think it's easier to take from the rich and redistribute their hard earned dollars to a class that feels entitled to that money, food, housing etc..

Don't you see the danger in creating a greater and greater entitlement society? Personal responsibility, character, hard work, don't these mean anything to you?

The federal government has a primary objective to protect us from enemies both at home and abroad. Not to feed you, not to give you free substandard healthcare, or educate you. That's up to the individual!

Optimism is easier than pessimism. We are still the Greatest Nation on God's green earth! Enjoy your freedom, and try not to be too negative.

I don't hate liberals, I just think they are wrong.

I also don't think you hate America, but you're just wrong! Where do you get the idea that it's all going to go down the drain in 10 years or so?

"Would the U.S. culturally become more like third world countries?"

Umm actually republicans and a functioning repoublic is what has brought all the wealth and freedom to this country.

"Their views seem to be to keep the government out of everything, they want to privatize schools, hospitals and probably even more like the fire dept and police. They also want to exterminate minimum wage and any unemployment/welfare benefits. "

This is untrue, although it is held by some super extreme reps. They dont want socialist nationalist (communist) systems like nationalized everything because that never worked anywhere and our way has been working jsut fine for hundreds of years. They want minimum wage but do not believe it should be a "living wage". This is because people who do not go to school should not get my money for free. The dems love wahts called "income redistribution (see communism).
The school system is broekn and has proven ineffective, the asian countries are surpassing us with almost 300 graduates of high science or engineering degrees to every like 75 of ours, and they outnumber us 10 to 1.

They dont want the government out of everythingm however they want freedom, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. This means the right to bear arms and basicly everything else mentioned in the consitution, keep in mind that this has made us the greatest empire in world history, why change it now to mirror the system of countries that have fallen.

"I always thought the reason why the U.S. was sooo great is because of the government, not in spite of it.."

Yes well it was because of the people and the government and the fact that it was a symbiotic relationship, the people elect government to do what they want and the government does it. All countries have governments, some are dictators, it is not government that has made our country great but the CONSTITUTION which sets checks and balances on government and how it is run that has made this country so great.

I would recommend a 7th or 8th grade history class to remedy your hate for my beloved country and its system.

I know what you did here....You typed "Republicans" instead of Democrats. Have you ever heard of the cost of living increase that follows the Dem's minimum wage increase. Also the third world is borrowing from us the US!! And Government was based on the states rights not the Federal Gov. Look at history big Gov ruins human spirit.

Your assumption that the US is great because of our government use to be true before the government took over our lives. Any form of government action on something other than what it was originally intended to do is a travesty. LBJ's Great Society is just as much a bastardization of the system as the religious right's idea of a theocratic society.

The truth is that today America is only great in spite of our government. The founding fathers are rolling over in their graves and it is because of both parties.

Why no longer have the libertarian get mutually as area of the Republican get mutually and help to flow the regulations of the get mutually again to smaller authorities and an emphasis on personal Liberty. Spliting the right vote between the Libertarians and Republicans will in trouble-free terms make certain persisted Democrat-Socialist rule.

Your logic astounds me. Do you really think we would be better off with just one major political party? If Democrats had full power we would be a fourth world country! We have to have two sides in order for democracy to work.

Complain about the stupid person in office rather than voting for change. What a concept, hey, why not vote for term limits on all politicians. That way, no one would have any reason to complain. We could have a new guy or gal every 2, 4, or 6 years.

The Republicans favor big business. They seem to see business running everything. Since many are greedy for money it makes sense. Take care of your overpaid CEO's and they will take care of their employees. Yeh, right, just like Ken Lay.

Things best done by government should be done by government, those things best done by industry should be done by industry and then there are things where they must work together.

The pure Liberal wants the government to run everything, the pure Conservatives wants business running everything, most Americans define themselves in the middle and we want things run some by government and some by business and some by both whenever possible.

I think the free market will do a much better job at running our schools and hospitals then the government is doing right now. Less than 5% of the working class make minimum wage.

Hmmm... I don't think that's completely accurate to be fair to the Republicans.

Republicans don't want government out of everything, that would be Anarchists (or to a lesser extent Libertarians).

Long story short, your argument (or question) commits the slippery slope fallacy. It's not really reasonable to think any of that would happen with the Republicans... I'm not their biggest fan personally but I certainty don't think this argument can be taken seriously.
