Wow- 1989 makes the movie really old. I must be positively ancient. Anyway- the movie you are talking about is Teen Witch and was released by MGM, not Disney. On her 16th birthday she gains powers as a witch. The necklace is just a symbol of her power and has been with her in past lives. Her main wish is to be popular and hwile she enjoys it at first, she finds that she loses her best friend and is unsure if the coolest guy in school really likes her or is just under her spell. It can be had for about 6 bucks at Wal-Mart.
