I hate Valentine's Day with the fire of a thousand hells. It makes me want to climb a clock tower and snipe every happy couple I see.

It is a commercial idea to push the sales of flowers and chocolates. Looking at some of the questions here, one would think it the most important day of the year for some people. Perhaps it is only like that in the USA, most people in the rest of the western world couldn't care less. They might get a small present or a card for a loved one but that would be about it.

Do you need a hug?
I do not mind Valentines day and I also tell my wife that I love her everyday.
Some couples change it a little bit and do nontraditional things. If you think that it is a marketing scam then do something entirely different or do not spend your money.
Be crafty, make something. It will probably be more thoughtful then just buying flowers or candy etc.

Of course it's a marketing scam to some degree, just as every holiday. But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy them, right? Besides, I tell her I love her everyday and Valentine's day is no different, so I just think it adds a little 'spice' to everyday life.

I have the same philosophy. I'm getting married in April and my fiance and I have never celebrated Valentines Day in the three years we've been together. You should love and respect your partner year in and year out. The cards, candy and flowers are all just symbols of how corporate the holiday truly is.

You don't worry about a thing, everything will start looking up for you soon. I'm sure you will find that someone special one day soon, and when you do, you will be like all the rest of us gullibles and buy the flowers and candy too!

I, too, hate Valentine's Day. It's another holiday full of commercialism. There really is no need to have this stupid holiday. People can declare or say "I love you" to each other any day and any time they want to. It doesn't have to be only on Valentine's Day.

I don't hate it, but I don't think it's such a special day. I don't think any holidays are that special. They all try to come up with the reasons why we should spend money.
I prefer home made dinner instead of dinner out, and make a card instead of buying them.

Ever since he put this ring on my finger he doesnt want to celebrate holidays. I dont get told he loves me and never feel appreciated. Everyone is tell me to leave him but something is telling me to stay. Valentines day rolled around and he says to me he didnt buy me anything because he says its materialistic. His idea then was I'll take you to wendy's for dinner, we will do half and half and that will be our present. Is this screwed up, or really am I as self centered as he makes me out to be?

oh god i know. that's what they do for a lot of holidays.
i have a lot of reasons to hate valentines day
-the spam emails
-how sick you get from all the chocolate
-how you feel awkward doing ANYTHING with your loved one because they might think you're trying to make a move for valentines day when you're just being who you usually are
well this is a bad answer but i just had to express my opinion; it's stupid.
