Justices are appointed by the Head of State to adjudicate cases of disputes filed by the people.
The number of justices depends on the constitution of the country. Normally, there are 10 to 15 justices of the Supreme Court.
The justices based their decisions on laws, precedents and opinions of legal experts in relation to the facts of the case as presented by the parties.

I will do your homework. There are 9 Supreme Court justices who term is for life even thought most retire and they are supposed to base their opinions on the Constitution, but really base it on political opinion and also are sometimes accussed of making law through their opinions
