I was told that it has something to do with Germany and the war? Has anyone else heard something about this? Is it true?

The Three Little Pigs predates WWII (I assume this is the "war" you refer to) by quite a bit. There is a 1849 edition (Halliwell, James Orchard. Popular Rhymes and Nursery Tales. London: John Russell Smith, 1849.). I always thought the moral was you reap what you sow. Build a cheap house quickly and you will regret it. Half-assed isn't acceptible either. Spend the money, take the time, and life will be secure/you'll survive.

I haven't heard of a WWII reference, maybe someone else has.

See http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/threepigs/index.html for an annotated edition.

Well, I haven't heard anything, but I could analyze it like this:

There is a brick pig...industrialized.

There is a straw pig...agrarian.

There is a stick pig...I don't know about this...maybe somewhat industrialized, but not as much as the brick pig. Maybe it represents the communist countries...wood seems banal and egaltarian.

So, the wolf would be Germany, probably during WWII?
He's gobbling up Europe, so his conquest could be compared to the wolf's successive destruction of the houses. Perhaps the pigs represent the Allied forces. Straw would be Russia because they are most agrarian and were invaded by Germany. Wood would be UK. Admirable defense, but couldn't get the job done. Brick would be US? That's just a guess.

I haven't heard anything like that regarding the three little pigs but usually there is some truth to those rumours, a lot of children stories and nursery rhymes have historical implications in them.

As others have said, it predates the two World Wars.

In my interpretation, the wolf (and his breath) represents the brutal winters common to Eastern Europe. The point of the story is that the effort put into one's home is directly proportional to one's protection against the elements.

A lazily thrown together home (made of straw) does a minimal job of insulating one from nature. In a way, this story is similar to the story of the ant and the grasshopper - improper preparation leads to much woe.
