Wii is better! PS3's have all sorts of technical issues and bugs, however the Wii is doing much better...and it's really fun too! But if you like more mature games, get the PS3. Right now, Zelda Twilight Princess for the Wii is about the best game you can get in my opinion.

I got this question all the time working at Gamestop.
The simple answer is that you'll eventually be glad you investedin the PS3. The wii is great and fun for now, but in a few years there will be no more new things to be done with the new controls and since the graphics aren't that great and there is virtually no media playback you will not be using it for much. As for the PS3, it was designed to be a system that will last 10 years. The graphics do not require an HDTV to enjoy but it is much nicer. In ten years HDTV's will become much cheaper and so you will be advancing your play even more for the PS3. It does not have a lot of titles now, but it will. If you look at how many ps2 titles thereare compared to xbox of gamecube then you'll see that ps3 should repeat the pattern eventually. Plus you get ps2 and ps1 playback which is no longer seeing the problems that people have been reporting.
So I would say...long haul? PS3. But since it's long haul and you want the wii as well as the PS3. Get the Wii now and save for the PS3. It will be there once you have enough money again and it will have even more features and hopefully a lower pricetag.

PS3, it can do everything the Wii can do and more. It even has motion sensors, like the Wii (it is the main controls for the game Warhawk) Theres also Blu-ray disc drive, which normally costs $1,000, thats whyy it costs so much. With memory stick slots on the PS3 makes it easier to transfer videos music & photos onto its 20GB or 60GB hard drive. It also can play PS2 and PS One games, and dvds. The wii cant even play dvds! It has you can also go on the internet and it even has its own instant messeging program, and the wii doesn't. If you have a PSP your able to hook that up to the PS3 and tranfer files from your PSP to the PS3. You will also be able to use it in more many different things in games (like as the controller and rear view mirror in Formula 1). Plus theres games like Resistance Fall of Man, Madden, and Warhawk (which uses the motion sensors). If there are and glitches or problems i'm sure you will be able to fix them with the system updates, just like the PSP has. It may cost more but that's only cuz you are gettin more and at a better quality.

Honestly? Get a Xbox 360.
I have all three. The Wii is fun - but gimicky as well. You will bore of the controls after a while - although you can buy a Wii and at least 7 games for the price of a PS3 with no games... Also, take note that the PS3 is worthless without an HDTV - and you also have to spend another $100 for high quality cables, as it only comes with RCA jacks - which dont support the HD features...
The $400 360 comes with cables, and right now most places are also offering a free game with it. Gears of War beat Resistence: Fall of Man - in PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE! What does that tell you?

What games do you like? Some PS3 games include: Genji Dawn of the Sword, Resistance Fall of Man, Call of Duty 3, Need for Speed Carbon, you can download Gran Tursimo HD of of the PS store for free not a full game but more than a demo. These are some of the already released games that are must buys.
Wii: Wii sports, elebits, Zelda, any original gamecube games, Madden 07. more must buys from Wii
Coming Soon:
PS3: Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA, Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Resident Evil 5, Tekken, New Ratchet and clank
Wii: Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros. Brawl, Super paper mario, Sonic and the Secret Rings.
Good Luck Choosing. I have a PS3 and love it, but its ulitmately your decision.

If you have the money you should definitely get the PlayStation 3. The Wii is good too, but it has a lot of games that are directed to the younger audience. The PS3 has great graphics, plays blue ray discs and has a FREE on-line feature. Since you are looking for good games, the PS3 is for you. Hope this helps.

Well I'm seeing a lot of different answers here and I"ll like you to consider my unbiased opinion. I would have to say get a Wii, if you want to invest in a short term console, and get a ps3 if you can wait until some fantastic games come out.
The Wii, like some people have already said is, to put it bluntly, an expensive gimmick. Nintento does not have that much 3rd party support, so after awhile you will start to see the same types of Mario, Super Smash Bros. etc. You will eventually become bored of the controls because every game will use it in the exact same way. Like I said, right now, the Wii is a better buy than a ps3. It's more original and unique and is a lot cheaper. While it's not worth as much as you pay, Nintendo makes money on each console sold, you can also buy some games with it.
With people saying get the 360, I would have to disagree aswell. If you're not into mature adult themed games a la Halo and Gears of War do not get a 360. Microsoft has tried to bring more kid like games to the console but they've failed. Take a look at Fusion Frenzy 2. The online portion of the console is much better than Sony's or the Wii's, although it doesn't support an internet browser like Sony's beast. Even though people say there are more problems with the ps3, I'd have to disagree. I've gone through 4 consoles and am severely underwhelmed by M$' customer support. The price is 100$ cheaper but you're not getting anything special. You have to add in another 150 for the HD-dvd player and another 100 for the Wireless adapter.
Now for the Playstation 3. As i previously stated, this would be my console of choice. Right now, there is not an exceptional amount of titles to choose from. Come march there are at least 6-7 more MUST HAVE titles. For the money itself, it's NOT an expensive console. If you have the money for it and have no problem forking over 650$ then definetely pick the ps3 up. A standalone bluray player is worth 1000$ that's a 400$ deal right there and you also get a state of the art processor and hardware. If you have a PsP then there is some cool connectivity coming out being able to play your music and movies on your ps3 from your psp at any hotspot in the world. Games of course, you have a wide variety of titles to choose from. Also, you can install the Linux operating system to turn your ps3 into a fully functioning computer.
While it might seem like I'm hyping the ps3 a lot more than the others. It's worth the hype. Sure the console might not be as impressive right now, but it'll be excellent in the near future, give it time to shine, we've all waited, and are still waiting for the 360 to shine. You'll get hooked on bluray's impressive picture quality and 7.1 surround sound and plus, bluray is the leading format in the movie war so you'll be able to keep your ps3 and not fork out money for a new hddvd player.
As to those that saying that you need an HDTV to enjoy the ps3, this is NOT true. Ps3 games still look leaps and bounds better than their non-hd counterparts. As to buying a new cable, this is true but I also had to buy a new cable with my 360 as the standard M$ cable did not displayer 1080p. I had to fork out MORE than my ps3 cable 150 compared to 100.
Bottom Line: Buy a Ps3. While it might not be that impressive now, give it time to shine. Wait a year and see what you prefer when games like Killzone, MGS4, Jak and Daxter etc. come out. Buy a Wii now and save your money so in October to November you can buy a ps3. Just DON't buy a 360. Imo, I have been underwhelmed by everything the system has to offer. Gears was an overrated piece of **** and I'm still waiting for a reason to justify the 700$ that I've spent on my 360.

I don't have either, but i have played both though. i would get a wii. it's much more entertaining, and interactive. and if you had enough to buy a ps3, then you could get a lot of different games for the wii, because it's only 250 bucks. so i say get the wii.

you should get ps3 well i could count up a lot of reason why but one good reason is that you don´t have swing you controler just as much in ps3 as you need to do in wii and your friends are more likely to be safe playing with you in ps3 without having the risk that you knock them down just because i needed to raise your sword up in zelda for wii
