I've used henna and my hair never looked prettier as when I used it!! It was a trusted product at Sally's Beauty Supply and came in a box and they had several different shades. Most of the red color fades within a month, however a red sheen remains. For me it was perfect and beautiful and there were no roots. I highly suggest it. However, make sure you do not use a permanent dye within months of using the Henna. Somehow the chemicals do not mix right and it may turn your hair green or something. I used henna, loved the experience, and nothing bad happened. It's great for people coloring their hair for the first time. It looks pretty gross though, like putting green poo on your hair, but don't freak out because it is supposed to look that way. I also now color my hair with boxed permanent color and the henna didn't mess anything up (I waited a long time, though to make sure I didn't mix the two). Also, I should add that my hair had never been dyed when I tried it, and I have naturally dirty blonde hair. So the effects would probably be a tad less noticeable for a darker hair color like yours.

there are 2 things you should know about henna then you are ready to go. #1 get the natural hanne which comes in a green powder form, do not get processed henna which has chemicals. #2 once you put henna on your hair although it is a natural conditioner and coats, protects your hair, you cannot put a dye over it. vice versa is ok you can put henna on colored hair assuming you waiter at least 2 weeks for the color to wash out. you can dilute the henna with coffee or red or black tea, you can add an egg for conditioning you can add a little bid of paprika only a little not to burn ur head, the result will be a coca cola color on your hair. you can use it once a month if you like, just make sure to cover your face and hands otherwise they will be orange for a few days. henna is great if you know how to use it and not to put color over your hair if you treated it with henna i mean you might need to wait a long time until the henna died hair grows out.

Yellow Orange and Red make a beautiful Autumn hue. Or put Black with Red if you want a punk effect.

Use the compliment color green. It will make the red just pop out. Don't make it too dark though.

That depends on the artwork itself. You may want to use the color in which ever way that is beneficial to the painting itself.
