I want to watch somthing but record somthing else.

It would depend on whether or not you have a dual tuner DVR. If it is a single tuner you will not be able to watch a second program unless it is already recorded.

First you need to make sure your Dish DVR has TWO tuners. If it has two tuners, you may also need to have it in Single TV mode. Then simply start recording one show and feel free to use the User Guide to find and watch another show. If you only have one tuner, you can only watch a pre-recorded show (not a live one), while it records.

I believe it needs to be a dual tuner to do this....not sure though.
