Help! I installed a Harbor Breeze fan, and when I flip the switch it only operates in high. I control the fan with a remote control. the remote DOES control the lights on the fan. I have a light on the top of fan and on the bottom, and they both turn on and off using the remote. However, the HI, MED , LOW, and REV buttons do nothing, the fan just stays in high mode. I do not believe the fan has a cord to pull to control speeds. Its hard to tell though because the fan is about 20 feet in the air and requires a scaffolding to get to. I am hoping I do not have to get back up to the fan to fix this problem?

It is Harbor Breeze®
52" Yorkshire Ceiling Fan
Item #: 134709 Model: HE-0413
I bought it from Lowes. I dont think I need to modify the wall switch because this same fan used to work fine with the wall switch and remote. Then it seized up and wouldnt turn anymore. I took it back to lowes and got a new one. This new one now will only operate in High mode.

I also do not see a pull chain on the fan anywhere? Maybe there is one that needs to be set on high for the remote to work? I see know pull cord or chain though.

It sounds like you had a fan there before. The red, black, white and green ground are from the old switch box and the red and black fed the fan and light seperately. You may have the feed in the red and not the black. Take a tester to see which one is alive. If it is the red one don't worry, all you have to do is switch the black and the red one. Do you still have two switches on the wall for the old fan? Make sure the one with the red wire is in the on position. Wirenut the unused one in the ceiling. It is a little tricky to get the transmitter into the spot at the top. You have to keep repositioning the wires to get it in. All of the other wiring is done correctly. The problem is the feed. The remote will turn the light and/or the fan on. Read the instructions as far as setting up the remote to be on the same frequency as the remote

Can you post the model of the fan? I can check it. For the most part , All fans have a three speed switch ( pull chain) and it needs to be set for High for it to wook with the remote. if there is a wall switch. you might want to install a fan speed contol there and not use the remote if you cant get to the fan.
