My son lives in Hungary now. Soccer is very big, but it's hard to find a Hungarian soccer team shirt to buy there. They sell all of the other European teams, but their own national team is not so good.

There was an article in Vasarnapi hirek a few months ago that made a convincing case that soccer is no longer the number one sport in Hungary (for a variety of reasons). The journalist pointed out that ice hockey has seen incredible growth in Hungary lately, and that it is poised to be the most popular sport in there in a few years. Interesting theory.
I think soccer is still the most popular sport in Hungary, but foreign teams only, not local ones.

i think there is no definite "favorite" sport in Hungary. we do and love many sports but i think none of them are typical.
yes, a half century ago we were champions in soccer, but this does not mean that this is the country's determinant sport, as for example baseball in the states etc.
and not all Hungarian guys love soccer, my husband is a very good evidence of it :)

Soccer, of course, then swimming, (team) handball,fencing and others. In cities like Gyor or Szeged, kanoeing is also big. They have a pretty impressive overall record in the Olympics, compared to the population of the country. A big sporting nation...

They are Champions In water polo, and Handball.
They are Not so good in soccer, but all males love it...
