I'm 19 years old and im in college at the moment and i only have a total of 4 hours college credit. I feel alot of pressure from peers that im behind everyone else. My first semester was a flop because i took so many hours i just fell behind. I realized this semester to just take it slow and pass these 2 courses im taking. Maybe in the future ill get used to it and can take more, for now i feel like im just getting far behind.

Speaking from experience man take classes the way you feel most comfortable b/c honestly your most of your present peers aren't going to be there in the future. Yes the pressure should be taken as a good thing to keep you on track and focused, but at the same time only bite off what you can eat. My first year out of HS I attended college full time....dropped half of my classes (partially due to my lifestyle :) . It was wayyy to much....school . partying. women . and I couldn't juggle them all. I had to move away from my friends to get focused b/c they could do all those things. I'm 25 and just finished my AA with a 3.5 GPA...that's nothing to brag about but if I could do it all over again...I would liked to have learned how to juggle school, partying, women, alcohol at the same time ...in moderation of course. I'm sure deep down you know what you're capable of so definitely challenge yourself. But don't ever feel like your falling behind when your pushing forward.

Ask your parents if they will consider giving you a loan for at least part of the amount. Then you will owe them, not the credit card company. You might also try to see if the research you do over the summer can be paid research. Talk to the professor and find out if they can pay you a small stipend, or consider reducing your hours at the research position so that you can work a few hours a week also. It'll tire you out......but it's better than being in ridiculous debt....OR use your weekends in the summer to work....

An average of 15 a semester is normal. Whatever else you are doing while you are in school needs to take a back seat to your education. Go to the academic resource center!

per semester, to be full time 12 - 16 depending on difficulty of courses.
If your school follows quarters, then about 8 per quarter

do you work?! if you work a lot maybe you should think about cutting the hours.

If not, then keep going at your own pace but every semester try to take a bit.

Don't let any a-s-s h-o-l-e put you down cuz your behind.
good luck!

Everyone progresses at different paces. It is very responsible of you to be taking only the number of classes you feel you can handle. It will take you longer than your peers to get a degree, but in the end you will be just as smart as the next guy! Good luck!
