You can't just drag and drop it back into your library if you've set it to just be on your iPod but not your iTunes library. There's no 'official' way to do it (says in the manual you can't do it) but i think you can download some programs such as the ones mentioned by some other people i read....

How could you loose it?
You cant loose anything on a computer...try a little harder.
Sorry little joke. Just put your old ipod into it and if you have itunes then it should take the music from your ipod and put it in your itunes thing. Then put your new ipod in and it should just take your music off the itunes library and on to your ipod. If not then just drag the library in the IPOD bit along the left hand side.
Sorry I'm never any good at explaining.
Happy Listening!!

All your music should be in the ipod library - there are a few Q/A on this site relating to getting the music off your ipod. Once this is done, you can put the music back into itunes and import them to your ipod.

Hi there. I just did that last night! I've found this free program called iSyncTunes (http://www.download.com/iSyncTunes/3000-2141_4-10539700.html?tag=lst-0-1), it works a treat.
What you do, install this new iSyncTunes on the PC with your iTunes. Transfer all the music (including playlists) onto the PC.. this is what the company quotes "iSyncTunes finds all of your music automatically and provides an XML import file ready for use in iTunes. " da daaah! new ipod has all your music from the last pod! really its so simpe!

If you use a Windows with an iPod, use this website:
http://www.cnet.com/4520-7899_1-6477981-...
If you use Mac with an iPod, use this website:
http://www.cnet.com/4520-7899_1-6488385-...
Save them to a folder on your computer and you'll have the songs again. Now, you can just add the songs from your iTunes library into your new iPod.
Congratulations on getting a new iPod and good luck!

I think you can just plug your old Ipod in and copy the music off it to a new playlist in itunes. Once youve done that associate your new ipod with itunes and then copy the playlist back to the new ipod

click onto the ipod removable disk logo on my computor(pc only) then make sure hidden files are shown (go into properties to change that. go onto ipod control then music. there should be fifty odd files there with the music in. just copy/paste onto your desktop then put back into itunes and synk onto other ipod. you are most likely having this problem as you are manually managing songs so that you have music on your ipod that is not on your computor change this in itunes. but Watch Out if you have video's music on your ipod that isen't on your computor it will be deleted
