I'm wanting to take off the fairing on my 1999 kawasaki 1000 police motorcycle and convert it to a standard headlight assembly. Does anyone know what my options are? Does anybody have pictures of similar work done? Thank you for any responses.

One of the things I did in my long and illustrious career was ride police motorcycles for ten years on the Wichita, KS department. All of the bikes I rode were the KZ1000P model with fairing. And the guy that said they can be a wiring nightmare was right...most departments have a "mechanic" who hooks up whatever they buy, which is usually whatever they can get the cheapest...however...I would not think just hooking up lights and turn signals would be too much of a chore. KZ1000 standard parts should work and some police models did not use the fairing, so some salvage dealers might have those. I would Google "motorcycle salvage dealers" and start there...Kenny ;o)

They were KZ1000s with a bunch of junk hung on them.
You will need a headlight and turn signals to replace what comes off with the fairing.

Warning: unless you are good with electrical/wiring problems you may be in for a hard time. Almost all of them had the warning lights and radios hooked up by whoever the police department could find. Lots of the electrical systems were badly hacked up.

some extra suggestions maximum persons forget. Even motorcycle mechanics no longer used to older Kawasakis with paper filters. once you're taking the cover and filter out off, keep in suggestions which way the metallic cup is going. it is the way the elements bypass - cover, spring, washer, filter out, metallic cup. do not ignore about the "washer"! It sticks to the filter out and persons do not even comprehend it. If that is lacking, purchase one! once you're waiting to placed the filter out again on - set up the bolt through the cover. set up the spring. set up the washer. Lube the rubber elements of the oil filter out and quite of pushing it onto the bolt, "screw it on". which will forestall the rubber elements from breaking off the filter out. set up the cup. placed a gentle coat of oil on the cover's o-ring. Screw the completed assembly on "through hand". do not use a wrench!!!! till that is each and each and every of how on. that is really elementary to strip the aluminum threads in the motor. have relaxing!
