5 days is way too soon. If you tested positive at this point it is likley you actually conceived before Feb 9th.
It takes about 10-14 days after the egg and sperm fuse for the developing embryo to implant itself into the uterine wall and start interacting with your body. At this point a pregnancy sustaining hormone called Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is able to be detected in the mother's blood and urine - this is the hormone that early pregnancy tests are looking for.
I wouldn't bother wasting a home pregnancy test until AT LEAST 10 full days have passed since intercourse - and even if this comes back negative I wouldn't discount the possibility of pregnancy, and would test again on day 14, if your period hasn't already started.
If you are desperate to find out earlier then it is possible that a blood test could detect it earlier than this, you would have to visit your doctor for this. However again, if the blood test comes back negative it doesn't mean you aren't pregnant, it just means that the hCG levels have not yet reached threshold levels that are able to be detected in the blood.
I have worked with IVF patients for about 8 years and have consulted with hundreds (maybe thousands!) of women and the absolute earliest positive pregnancy blood test I have ever seen that resulted in a confirmed pregnancy was 9 days after embryo transfer. Likewise I have seen patients tested at days 10-12 with a negative result, test positive again at day 14.
At this early stage, without expert medical assistance, it would impossible for you to tell for sure whether you have conceived.

I took a test on February 2, which came back postive a day before I was actually supposed to get my period. Come to think of it, however, I was having symptoms of early pregnancy as much as a week earlier, but I didn't test before that. You could go ahead and try it, but you may be wasting your money, because there may not be enough of the pregnancy hormone in your system yet for the test to pick up.

That would be to soon to tell. Wait a few more weeks. The closer it gets to your menstration the more accurate the results of the test. Blood work takes up to 8 days to show a pregnancy, and most home test take up to the week before to give a positive result. Be patient....

I've had 5 pregnancies & the early home pregnancy tests that I have taken never show up positive until I'm a few days late for my period. 3-5 days)

It's possible but highly unlikely. Most of the time it takes around 14 days after conception (which doesn't necessarily mean the day you had sex, just the day your egg was fertilized, they're two different things). I've heard of some girls getting positive results at 9-10 days after ovulation.
If you're trying for a baby, be patient. If not and you're considering other options, ask your doctor about the morning after pill. It should still work if it's only been 4 days since you had sex.

Hello. As a nurse... you need to wait until 4-6 days before your next period at least for the preg test to be postitive. The hormone that the test detects doesn't show up until about 2 weeks after implantation. I think it's still too soon.. but you could always try if you can't wait any longer!! lol.. good luck if you're trying!!!

You are using a great test, but it is HIGHLY unlikely to get a positive result that soon. The best would be 5 days BEFORE your period is due. Wait one more week!

Oh yeah, Hon, dont waste your money! It is way too early. If you want to test for the heck of it since it is Valentine's day, then get a good reliable test and cheap too. Walmart brand Equate. Like $3.97. You can start testing around 11 to 12 days after ovulation but most tests dont show until 15 to 18dpo. I always tested 11 to 12days after. Good Luck and I hope CONGRATS are in order!!
