I say yes. There's a difference between someone who's quiet, softspoken, humble, etc., and someone who's shy; someone who's insecure around people, and gets emarassed really easy. I've always been on the quiet, softspoken side, and i'm perfectly happy with my life, so far. I think being a little quiet, humble, or softspoken is a good quality in someone, cuz those are the people who usually think more than the bigmouths who just look for attention and need to get cracked in the face to shut them the hell up. I think this world would be a much better place if there weren't so many egoes.

YES!
There are a lot of loud bosy nosey noisey pushy people who would dissagree
but I say being humble, or quite, or having social anxiety or avoidant personality disorder
are all very different than being shy
I get called shy
and whenever I do it makes me angry and think that the person is either misinformed, ignorant, or doesn't care enough to find out the real reasons.

Quiet and shy are not the same thing. I tend to be quiet unless I have relevant information. I'm not shy. I go on business meetings where I don't know anyone. I make random business calls until I get a hold of the right person and I don't get embarassed if people think I'm stupid for calling the wrong office.
Quiet and shy are not the same thing.

yeah I'm shy and quiet. Yes they are 2 different things but shy people are often quiet. I've been a quiet person all the time. I do agree the bigmouths do need to learn to shutup for once.

Yes, quiet is a sympton, whereas shy is a personality trait.
People who are shy are usually quiet, but you could be quiet without being shy.
Mute people cannot talk and are typically quiet to be around, that does not make them shy.

Since you answered your own question, I will have to agree with your analysis. I'm also a quiet, & soft spoken person, I'm a little afraid of confrontation, but not afraid to voice my opinion were I believe it's required. And yes the world could do with a little less egotistical people.

I agree with you. There is definitely a difference. I am fairly quiet at social/family gathering and it isn't because I am shy. Most of the time it isn't worth the effort of trying to break your way into a conversation with someone who obviously just wants to hear themself speak.

Yes...just cause you're quiet doesn't mean your shy ...I've seen some pretty shy people shock me, and I've seen some really quiet people come to light put in the right situation...

Yeah, in my opinion they are. Quiet is someone who just doesn't conversate as much as other people and usually is in thinking state in my opinion. Being shy doesn't mean you're quiet. Neither does it mean you are innocent. It's just the way you behave when you're in a situation.

I agree, they are two different things. A quiet person is usually a "thinker" and/or "philosopher". A shy person doesn't even feel comfortable around people and is afraid of their own shadow.

I'm shy and my brother is quiet. He just doesn't talk much because he doesn't have a lot to say. I'm shy, don't want to be seen and would prefer to be invisible. There is a difference. People flock to my brother and I tend to avoid other people.
