This is a very good site on the rooms in a medieval castle, with explanations.

I was assigned to read Joseph and Francis Gies' Life in a Medieval Castle while working on Chaucer last semester. Very informative, and copies start cheap at Amazon. My favorite was the buttery where they made the beer. After all, the water was unpalatable.
