My husband and I were recently made redundant. I am in the process of starting my own business (very early stages) so haven't actively looked for a job yet. I have never claimed any benefits before and have paid my stamp since I was 21. I want to know if I am entitled to any form of benefits/monetary help from the government. We have a mortgage for £100,000. No children
We live in manchester, UK.
If anybody can let me know what I may be entitled to claim
and how I would go about it, that would be great.

I know it's not much, but this should help get you started. It's England's business grant website. - http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?r.l1=1073858790&r.l3=1073869074&r.t=RESOURCES&type=RESOURCES&itemId=1073791556&r.i=1073791553&r.l2=1073866776&r.s=sc

In addition to looking to national providers, you should be looking at banks, the city government (Manchester's website doesn't provide much info for this), and other larger businesses in the area who would be willing to engage in a developmental joint venture contract. Sometimes big business is willing to support up and coming entrepreneurs if it see's a potential service worker or supplier, sort of like contracting a freelance worker or contractor.

Best of luck and remember to be responsible. So many small businesses fail due to lack of expertise and responsibility. You seem to know what you're doing, just do not lose focus.
