I'd like to address safety at HD and forklifts. It is standard operating procedure to barricade not only the aisle that the forklift is in but also the next one over to prevent people from being injured by falling merchandise. If this policy is not followed please seek a manager.
As far as the 10% price guarantee, HD also has the policy if a competitor has the exact same item sold for less, HD will beat the price by 10%, if it is found on line then HD will match the price.
I have grown up with HD and currently work for the company. I see the blue box as a competitor that like us, has its benefits and pitfalls. It is good to have a competitor to foster innovations and to promote customer service.

I've done business with both and Lowes had the best service.
Also, my orders would come in sooner at Lowes.
And, if you bring in an ad showing that Home Depot had lower prices for something, Lowes would match it plus 10%.
I heard Home Depot does the same thing now but don't know for sure...

Lowe's!!!!!!i know that Lowe's is rated number 1 on the east coast!in sales!but anyway Lowe's does match home depot 10%way before home depot ever started!i work there.we are to ask any customer whom we walk by if we can help them.our store is way bigger than home depot!make a phone call to both ask the same questions about your project.whoever helps you out the most on a telephone will definitely be the best to help you out when you get there!I'm sure it will be Lowe's.good luck

I'm a Home Depot kinda guy, but only because they were in my city WAY before Lowes ever came to town. I will shop both, but I know my way around Home Depot (and they are a little closer to my home). There isn't much I can't get at one store than the other one doesn't have.

This really varies from city to city. I've done work in Seattle, Fresno,CA (where I live) and back east.
In Fresno, Lowes came later, so they built bigger stores than HD, hence , they usually have a wider selection. While I don't usually have to ask for help , Lowes seems to have slightly more knowledgeable people here . Could be the local training . Prices vary- one might have something cheaper than the other ,but it could be vice versa for something else.
NY and Seattle were both pretty bad as far as knowledgeable people (Keeping in mind ,it was summertime at both places and a lot of the help were probably students ) Prices were about the same as above , some higher , some lower.
I wouldn't plan on setting your sites on making just one of them your favorite store. Keep a watch on sale sheets for what you need or want, and educate yourself about some of the stuff you need to know about before you go. Remember , the bottom line is that they are salesman and want you to buy their product instead of someone else's. Buyer Beware !!!
The hardest question I usually ask is where something is located , and it varies with each store that any given employee knows the answer.
Look for us old guys, a lot of them have been in he trades and are retired and just past working in the cold and heat. You'll most likely get an intelligent answer .

They are very competitive. I do know Home Depot offers excellent training for their staff, not sure about Lowe's. I think it probably comes down to which is more conveniently located, and who has the right product when you need it. Personally, I like shopping at ACE Hardware.

home depot. i worked at both places. home depot goes thru alot of trouble to find someone legit for the job. meaning more knowlage and someone that really wants to help. lowes is cool too but its for the person that wants to just walk up in there get a few things and head out. home depot is focused on getting everything you need for the job. they are trained to try and sell you the everything down to the floor pads for you chairs (if your buying a new floor)

Lowe's target market is the female shopper. Their stores are better lit with more color and graphics, wider aisles and easier-to-shop merchandising and displays.

Home Depot caters to the serious do-it-your-selfer or professional, whether male or female.

Home Depot if you need help doing the work because that's where most of the Mexicans wait. Lowes if you don't like seeing Mexicans.

Neither, I hate both places, and only go when I have to, the stores are good, it's just the "Check outs" that are too long, I used to drive fork lifts, somebody is going to get killed in the store while shopping, no matter how careful you are with a fork lift, you always drop something from up high because, you can't see in front of it up there from the seat, thats why they put cages around the driver, if you hear that fork lift in the next aisle, be EXTRA careful you don't get something dropped on you from the other side, thats how most forklift accidents happen, it should NOT be done around shoppers. I've seen WILD forklift accidents, where the whole aisle of stuff twisted over into the next aisle. They close off the aisle that they are working in, but they NEVER close off the aisle next the aisle that they are working in, THATS THE ONE THAT GETS YOU !
