A. she's not from here originally and doesn't have any idea where to choose, B. she's a little punchy and won't do anything (not that she could at this point, no doubt every place is booked up). I cancelled the reservations I made to Olivetto's because I risked her refusing to go and having to pay a late cancellation fee for nothing.

My question is, what should I do with the $185 I won't be spending???

You seem to be the only one who picked up the gyst of my annoyance. Her friend's husband completely forgets about v-day, yet she doesn't appreciate me trying to make ours special. Roses and a present are givens, and she told me this morning she wants to go somewhere. At this point it will have to be somewhere ordinary and much less romantic since all the nice places have been sold out. It will probably come out to around $50, so I decided to spend the $135 I'm saving on software.

Wow...you think she would refuse to go!! If she is that ungrateful then I would just get her a rose and maybe a quiet evening in...and call it good. If she will be happy with that.
I would love anything my fiance gave me, I wouldn't be ungrateful or demand on choosing where we go. You should have kept the reservations and if she didn't want to go I would have went anyway. It's hard to surprise someone like that. Best wishes to you!!

maybe some jewlerry, nice earings or necklace! I also think the spa idea is a good one, even just a could massages!
Or if you have children see if you can get someone to babysit/take your kids, run a hot bubble bath with some candles, cut up some strawberries get some whipped cream and chocolate syrup and feed her while she is in the bath or you share the bath. Romance her in the bedroom after that! Be Creative!

Why don't you surprise her with a romantic evening. Something low key, but romantic. Get someone to take the kids (if you have them)..... call tonite and order take out for tomorrow. Get
a bottle of wine or her favorite drink, flowers, chocolate (truffles - if she likes them)........ a chick flick that you know SHE would like.

That way you can be comfortable at home and no stress.

Good luck

Take the kids to Disneyland and give her a weekend off. Or send her off for a spa day. Sounds like she needs it.
