answer in depth by rm pinkfeet: rule #1.Do not allow yourself to be put in a position to be sued.(this isn't as easy as it seems because we live on a planet where people are just waiting for you to slip so they can sue you). Rule #2. If you are going to sue someone you better be ready to contend with lots and lots of red tap, politics and m-o-n-e-y. If you have lots and lots of money you needn't use it to sue, you need it to invest or whatever else you choose to do with it. And finally, Rule #3.In reality you are against the law of averages when you sue someone or someone sues you, but here's the thing to keep on the front burner: Either end of the stick you're on, sueing or being sued is too time comsuming, and believe me, there are a lot more important things to do than stressing out of how you're going to handle sueing someone, or, how you're going to handle being sued. It isn't worth it for the sake of your own piece of mind.

A person doesn't usually settle out of court if he is in the right. Money does talk though. If he gets a lawyer, the rich person will have several lawyers, depending on what is a stake. My sister was injured at work and got nothing because her employer was very rich. It doesn't make sense, but he was very threatening to anyone willing to testify for her.

If you can prove that the lawsuit is frivilous and malicious and without merit, you can sue back and maybe get more than you lost in the first place.
