In this day and age... 10 isn't too young to have a cell phone....
It's a good idea to get him/her a camera phone also...
There are alot of whackos out there... a phone comes in handy in
an emergency...

Actually i know a girl who has had a cell phone since she was 5 years old. The only reason a 10 year old would need a cell phone is if you dont have a home phone. If you do have a home phone this child doesnt need one. I am a teenager and even I think that a child doesn't need a cell phone until they start going out with their friends without adults being there the entire time. (i.e. to the movies with friends and you don't know exactly when it's over, etc., etc.) 12 or 13 would be more appropriate than 10 in my opinion.

Nobody needs a cell phone, especially that young. If my son or daughter wants to have a cell phone, they can wait until they're at least 14-15, and they'll pay their portion of the plan. If they go over their minutes and rack up a large bill, I'll just cancel their service until they can pay it off. Easy parenting.

Well getting a cell phone is like stages.Here in a electronic society 10 isn't bad to give a cell phone.But getting a cell phones is like stages because as he/she grows up they can get a better phone.But at 10 it is better to give he/she a regular phone maybe games and text messaging.Then when he/she gets 13 you can get he/she a camera phone or a razr.

It doesnt really matter as long as ur responsible enough to not lose it or brake it or get the bills really high and stuff like tht. Coz I got my first cell phone when i was 9 but i got a new 1 coz i got tired of my old 1. But yeah it doesnt really matter.

i think thirteen is a good age, maybe 12. i didn't get mine till i was 15, and i think 10 is wayy too young.

using it for emergencies... any age that the kid can understand and us it that way...
apart from that... whenever they have a job and can pay the bill themeselves... harsh but man are kids pampered these days.
