I would spend at least a week in New York City. See the usual stuff (statue of liberty, empire state building, etc.) Also check out the Village, go to jazz clubs, visit ground zero, and maybe see a New York Yankees game.

Because you'll be traveling by Greyhound (not the most fun mode of transportation), I'd recommend concentrating on just a few cities. Boston is great for tourism with all kinds of history. The city's "Freedom Trail" is interesting (and free). Another wonderful place to visit -- Washington, DC. Museums, nightlife, and more memorials than you can possibly imagine.

Have a great trip!

I went to new york and had an amazing time, but i spent over a grand in 3 weeks (British pounds) so if you're on 1,000 dollars then be careful! - check out Jazz on the Park - its a cheap and friendly hostel on (I think) 103rd st and Time Out recommend it! Go to Staten Island but not for the Statue of Liberty - its really disappointing and so much smaller than expexted! - Go for the view of NYC! That's worth going for...then again I did go the year before the twin towers fell - but it will still be beautiful! Central park is great to walk through too instead of tubing it! Have a good trip!

I would say to stay in New York. See Time Square, the statue of Liberty, go to a Broadway play.
There is SOO much to see in the US and the best visit for
your money would be to stay in one spot. That way you can get
a better hotel rate, etc.
Or you could try and get a tour. Try vacationstogo.com

Have fun.

Spend a lot of time on New York. there is a lot to do. THen go to Washington D.C and see the sights. If you don't mind long rides, go down to florida... See Orlando and then hang out on the beach.
