I have noticed this along with a few other (across the country). Is there something going on? Perhaps something with the weather... or an alien invasion XD

If you're in the temperate zone or above in the northern hemisphere, it's winter.

Therefore, cold air=more heat. Heated air gets dried out as it heats, because the moisture in it turns to steam and doesn't keep things humidified.

The air is often drier outside as well, because of weather patterns in the winter. For example, spring is often much wetter.

Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle...zap!

Happens every winter.

There are four alien ships that have landed and the communication's between these ships is causing the static electricity in the air. When they leave, the static will drop back to normal levels.
