I meant to ask the gyno the last time I was there but I was focused on it being over with. Everytime I have a Papsmear the gyno always has a difficult time inserting the spectrum and has to use another one. Has anyone experienced this or know why? One time the RN made a comment and I think it was related to my cervix being short? Not sure.

It is possible that your uterus is tilted and it's just hard to get to. You'd be surprised how many women have a tilted uterus. the dr. actually has to make me sit almost off the exam table to get to mine. And it's pretty painful.

Well, this isn't always comfortable. The spectrum is supposed to be lubricated and warmed so it is easier to insert. But if this doesn't work then ask for the smallest spectrum because the smallest can fit in anyones "part".

I am the same way. Those things are so uncomfortable and plus I tense up which makes it hurt even more. Once the doctor had to use a baby speculum LOL.

Before I started haveing babies I had that problem to, You can request the Doctor to use a smaller one before you begin the pap smear, Doctor's like to use the regular size one's so that they can have a better look inside, to see what's going on. Doctor's see so many patient's from the time they see you til the next time, so you will have to remind them every time.

My sister has the same problem. I think it is a combination of nerves/discomfort having something cold and metallic stuck up you and simply being small/tight. Our bodies are all different sizes - why shouldn't our vaginas?
