There are several reasons. One reason has to do with testosterone levels. Men normally have 20% - 40% more testosterone than women. This differs in each person. Also, your adolesence has lots to do with it as well. It seems that people that were kind of sheltered and raised very strict have a higher sex drive (at least in their 20's). There could have been some sexual trauma as well such as abuse. Also, 1% of the population is considered "asexual" where they don't care for sex at all. When men and women have substantially different sex drives, something interesting happens. Most women need to feel close to their partners emotionally to desire sex. Women need to spend time with their partners, to communicate on a deep level and feel like they're team mates in regards to housework and kids and so on. All this has to be in place for most women to really desire their men.
Men, on the other hand, generally need to feel close to their partners physically before they invest a great deal of energy into their relationships. So she's waiting for him to be more intimate emotionally and he's waiting for her to be more tuned into him physically and the resentment that results in this waiting game is so huge, it's beyond belief.

I have a very high sex drive and it doesn't help as without it frustration comes very quickly. I'm glad my gf spend as much time as she can for me.
It can also get in the way of your friendship and social relations as a girl or woman will be considered as someone you can get with. But with self control and such, I could be with one and only one woman for more than 7 years now, without having cheated once
