The universe began about 13.7billion years ago. A star that formed in our galaxy some time after that became old and exploded - a supernova. In the ordinary life of a star, fusion producesthe elements up to iron. To get the heavier elements, the enormous heat and pressure of a supernova are required.

It is possible that a second star formed from the gas and dust left behind by the explosion of the first and the process happened again. Whether or not there were two supernovae, less than 5 billion years ago there was a huge swirling disc of gas and dust that were the remains of the previous star. The disc gradually coalesced under gravity to produce a new star, the Sun and many clumps or rock, ice and gas that became the planets, moons, asteroids etc. The Earth itself formed about 4.7billion years ago. Shortly after that, it collided with another large body and the combination split into two pieces forming the Earth and the Moon.

tentofield has the only reasonable answer here.
The others' are incredibly ignorant. No one thinks that Earth was created by the big bang! That's how the current universe formed. Earth formed about 10 billion years later (about 4.6 billion years ago) from the accretion of small solid particles clumping together under the force of their own gravity in the spinning disk of the solar nebula.

OK, if the Earth was God created, that is one thing but if is was the big bang theory...Then where did fruits and vegetables come from? From the formation of gas and ice? There just happened to be seeds floating out there to plant themselves in the Earth?
