When a phone is locked, it means that it is for use with one carrier only. Unlocked means you can use it on any carrier that uses the same technology of that phone. If you have Sprint, they do not support phone that have to with being locked or unlocked. Make sure the phone is CDMA, because locked/unlocked deals with iDen and GSM phones only.

ps- Sprint is CDMA

you have to have the unlock code if it is locked that is so if you lose it people cant just pick it up and use it , or you can reset it. No not all phones will work with sprint. You may be able to get a free phone from sprint if it has been 2 year from the time you got you last one. you will have to sign a new contact.

locked and unlocked phones are the ones that use a gsm network. they are the ones with the sim cards that you can remove.

a locked phone can only be used with the carrier it is locked to.
and an unlocked phone can be used with any other network that uses sim cards.

i never used sprint, so i am not sure what kind they use though. if you have a sim card then i guess you can get the phone unlocked or just buy one on ebay that is already unlocked.
