There is a show on HGTV, called Life with Ed. Watch that and it will tell you all about that. That man runs EVERYTHING in his house off the sun. Check it out, it is pretty cool.

It does not give directly. But the heat or the light energy we get from the sun can be converted into elecrical energy with the help of technology. For example photo electric cells can be used to convert the light energy into elecrical energy. At the same time I would like to mention that the electricity produced in the atmosphere during lightning is also due to the heating of the atmosphere by the Sun.

The sun gives us electricity with technology. The solared powered car is one. There is a panel on top of the car which uses the suns rays as an energy. It is only a source of energy if you have technology.

Solar thermal energy can be focused on a heat exchanger, and converted in a heat engine to produce electric power or applied to other industrial processes.- excerpt from wikipedia.com

Solar energy is used not only to produce electricity, but also heat and desalination of (removing salt from) seawater. So far we use different kinds of solar power technologies such as solar cells. The simplest kind you can find using solar energy to produce light is the solar lighting (for gardens) you can find in most home improvement stores such as Home Depot or Lowe's; also solar flood lights (this is next on my buying list). Then you have cars powered by solar energy and sometimes hybrid- any combos of solar, kinetic, electric, or biodiesels, such as ethanol, cocobiodiesel (Philippines), etc. (Photosynthesis is part of the process so plants can grow like the coconut and corn where they get these biodiesels.) Cars are more complex and complicated. There are also houses that use solar energy to produce heat and electricity (sort of like a hybrid house). There are solar power towers that produce electricity for the public such as "Solar Two, a concentrating solar power tower (an example of solar thermal energy applied to electrical power production)".

Read this link to wikipedia. It is very interesting. It's everything about Solar Power. This sun of ours is very powerful!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_power

Meg's got it right. A long time ago, the sun shone on a forest and trees grew. Then the trees died and were covered up for along time. And then somebody came along and drilled and found oil. And then they made electricity from it. Very old sunshine. Stored in oil and coal. Ditto firewood. All solar power.
