This is the email she just sent out because we have a huge snow storm:
Class will be cancelled tonight due to the weather. Don’t assume this is a free day. In fact, please add chapters 4 and 5 to your reading list for next week and write a short summary on each chapter. This will be due at the beginning of our next class meeting (so show up on time!). Next class, we will discuss the readings that were due today, the readings that are due next week, and chapters 4 & 5, so be prepared!
Am I the only one who thinks she sounds like a total hard *** and a *****?

Chapters 4 + 5 are 100 pages each.....so that basically means next week I have to do 1,700 pages of reading plus that stupid summary thing she wants us to do. Don't tell me thats normal for college...I'm a senior. I've never seen that happen.

Dear Class,
I have to inform you that we will not be having class tonight do to the increasingly bad weather. Though if you feel you got a day away from your Psychology text I am sorry but you did not. Actually the exact opposite is what I have in mind. I expect you to have an essay on the meaning of love, yes I am in a Valentines day mood. This essay is to be 5 pages typed. Also I want this by this Friday along with your Biography on your Psychologist. By the way you know my view on love be careful with your essays. (PS he feels that love is the worst sin man can create) With that I bid you a fun evening while I go to the ice rink. Do not even think about not getting this essay done I will fail you and that is a promise.

I am also a senior and that sounds about like my weekly readings. I had one instructor at the beginning of this quarter give me chapters 3 through 12 to read for the week plus readings out of the other two books we have for that course. At this level they expect more out of their students. You just have to buckle down and do it, thats part of the deal.

No, she sounds like a typical college professor who doesn't want to lose class time. At least she bothered to tell you in advance that she wants you to do additional work. Some teachers won't let you know until the night before it's all due, or they just assume you'll figure it out on your own. And at least you get snow days. I have to walk to school in the snow every day.

No, this is not high school. People in college need to be serious in order to succeed. In corporate America if you could not make it into work because of weather you would be expected to do as much as you can over the Internet or come in early and stay late the next day in order to not get behind.

You or your parents are paying for you to be educated, right? Just because class had to be cancelled doesn't mean that the learning stops. You are acting like a HS kid instead of a college student. Grow up and accept responsibility for your own education.
