I bought a dishwasher Friday and am installing it myself. I bought a dishwasher stainless steel install kit...it included a power cord a water line and the hardware. The power cord is flat and 3 pronged...the cord color is gray and I stripped the ends off the wires. The middle wire is color coded green for the ground but the other two are still gray. I called the company but they wouldn't tell me anything...The plug itself has letters on it Z W and G. The G is the green for ground but which ones are the Z and W. Is the W white and the Z black??????

The top two "blades" on the plug are both the same size...

wLook at the screws where you will be making the connection in the washer. The screws should be labeled with the same letters.
(Also there should be a wiring diagram on the sticker on the back panel of the dishwasher.
Good Luck ! ! !
If the washer is 120 V one of those flat blades should be narrower than the other (the line side is the smaller) The other is neutral. The round or U-shaped is the ground.
If the washer is 220 V then even if you get the 2 flat blades reversed it wouldn't make much difference there is 120 V on each leg 120 + 120 = 240 V.

More than likely its your Standard 120V, 20 amp, 12/2 wire.
Green= Ground
White (w)= White
Z Black = hot leg
IF you are unsure which is the neutral, on the GREY cord, one of the sides will be smooth, The other will have raised slits on the side, youll know what i mean when you look at it....That is the Neutral if it is not already identified.
IS it hard wired, or is there a Plug behind the dishwasher?

The shielding on the power cable should have either some writing or color painted on one or the other side. If it does, that's the white or common wire. Connect it to the white wire from the unit.
If it doesn't, trace the LEFT prong (when plugged in) to the end and that's your common. (But only if your outlet is installed with the hole or ground facing down, not up. If it's up, trace the right prong)
Good Luck.

As long as the ground is right, it will work with either wire on white or black, this is the good thing about 120v. Idealy, you want the large side if the plug to go to white, That is if you can trace it out, but it will work in either side. :-)

Actually as long as you have the ground wire correctly attached to ground, the other two wires really do not matter. Hook one to one screw and the other wire to the other screw.

Exactly! You can also tell by looking at the blades of the plug. The "fat" one is the neutral blade.
