Im looking to buy to guinea pigs to live together but I keep getting conflicting reports on whether boys or girls are better??? Anyone shed any light on whther I should buy to young males or females

I would buy 2 females because males may get aggresive most of the time. And don't buy a female and a male unless you are ready to have many many Guinea Pigs...

i was same position as you the thing that made me decide was with a male i was told i would have to pop his penis out to check there was no shavings or such like stuck to it yuk,also if they had missed mating there would be waxy stuff in cage (sperm)yuk again also the male has some sort of gland on his back that gets waxier and waxier yuk again.females get along easier and if you have to spilt them ie if one got ring worm it is harder to reintroduce a male than a female to a group.which ever you get make sure you get em checked i got 3 females from petsmart and actually was sold 2 females and one male(who was promptly swapped and re checked new one at vet!!!) hope this helps

It depends on what you prefer really.
Females are more relaxed then a Male. They are less likely to fight. Males are aggressive towards each other, so they need to be siblings or they have grown up together, otherwise they will fight and one is likely to kill the other. I find the Females easier as they are less aggressive towards the owner, Males can be kinda of mean toward the owner. But as I said it depends on what you prefer, though male rodents are meaner, more territorial, aggressive, and harder to train. Female rodents are calmer, less territorial, more relaxed and easier to train. Though it depends on the male some males are really sweet, while other are just plan nasty.

if you're going to get males [which are usually more active, but have a strong scent] then you should probably get two that have been together since a very young age, or that are siblings.
if you're going to get females [which are much more affectionate and smaller] than most females usually get along.
if you're going to get one of each, you should probably have the male neutered, so that no unwanted babies come into the world.

if you have 2 males they may fight more than females. we have 3 females and they get along fine. they have the odd argument about who is the boss but they are very good friends. i recommend going for females as they don't fight as much as the males.

well um males will probaly fight more but females are bitches just to say but if you can handle it get girls! i also had 2 guniepigs 2 girls! one girl was seprated from the other one and when they reunited one og them started nibbling on the others ear so dont seprate them but yeah they were good! i dont have them no more my mom says they make a mess
